India has reached a historic milestone in its renewable energy journey, with the total installed renewable energy capacity crossing the 180 GW mark. This achievement brings the country closer to its ambitious target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030.

Solar energy continues to be the largest contributor to this growth, accounting for over 70 GW of the total renewable capacity. Wind energy follows with approximately 65 GW, while other sources including hydro, biomass, and waste-to-energy make up the remaining capacity.

The Power Minister emphasized that this achievement demonstrates India's leadership in the global fight against climate change. "We are not just meeting our renewable energy targets; we are exceeding them. This progress positions India as a global leader in clean energy transition," the minister stated.

The renewable energy sector has also emerged as a major employment generator, creating over 1 million jobs across manufacturing, installation, and maintenance activities. The sector is expected to create an additional 2 million jobs by 2030.

International recognition of India's renewable energy efforts has led to increased foreign investment in the sector. Several global companies have announced plans to set up manufacturing facilities in India, taking advantage of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for solar modules.
